Peter Jackson
October 31, 1961 - Pukerua Bay North Island, New Zealand
An only child, this imaginative New Zealander started working in film quite early when a friend of his parent's gave him a Super 8mm camera. He continued to experiment with directing through his childhood and young adulthood (while working at a photo shop), culminating in his first commercial offering, Bad Taste, in the late 1980s. This film started low-key and on a tight budget, using local talent, but was shown at the Cannes Film Festival where it collected a number of prizes and much interest.
From there he moved on to more famous offerings, including the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the remake of King Kong.
Personal Quote: "New Zealand is not a small country but a large village."
