George Lucas

Born May 14, 1944 in Modesto, California

A highly influential filmmaker and visionary, this rather quiet and introverted man grew up in a small town in California.

A horrible car crash in his late teens made him rethink his plans of becoming a professional racecar driver, and he turned to his second passion, film, instead. He worked with Francis Ford Coppola on a number of projects, including The Godfather, before he got his own break with American Graffiti. This allowed him to launch his special dream, Star Wars. He has also worked with Steven Spielberg on the Indiana Jones series of tales, and established Industrial Lights and Magic, a visual effects powerhouse.

He is diabetic, lives well outside of Hollywood and its influences, and while known for his love of the cutting edge of technology, still writes longhand with pen and paper.

Personal Quote: "A special effect is a tool, a means of telling a story. A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing."
