John Malkovich

Born December 9, 1953 in Christopher, Illinois

Born of Croatian descent, this versatile actor started in Chicago and moved on to New York on Broadway. His film debut was in Places in the Heart in 1984, where he promptly earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Other films would follow, but he is perhaps best remembered for his role in Dangerous Liaisons, a costume drama where he played opposite Glenn Close and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Although he returns periodically to work in Chicago, he was told by the head of the theater department at Illinois State University that he would not have a career as an actor when he was a student. That, thankfully, did not stop him.

Personal Quote: (Discussing the movie Being John Malkovich): "When I first looked at the script, the title seemed like a one-line joke, but it turned out to be a 100-page joke."
