Movie Help Web Popcorn Kernels:

You really go see this movie for Tom Hanks, and whether or not you like watching him on the screen will guide your feelings on this movie. The plot can be easily summarized as follows: Hanks plays Chuck Noland, a FedEx suit who is completely wedded to his work. He has a girlfriend Kelly (Hunt), but his busy schedule takes him away from her for long periods of time. During one routine trip his plane goes down and he is stranded alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. There, he fights for survival and tries to think up/design a way to return to civilization.

The bulk of the movie focuses on this city boy trying to figure out how to live in the wild, and of course a passing grade is his survival. He has a number of amusing scenes, such as the quest for fire, and his constant companion is a ball named Wilson who, while remaining completely silent, is as close as a co-star as you can get with an inanimate object. I was actually moved when- well, I won't say anything more, but it's amazing how Hanks imbued the thing with an actual personality.

I enjoyed this movie, in an interesting puzzle sort of way (how will he survive?), and the return to civilization was a mild anticlimax. Of course things had moved on by this time, and the scenes and how the other players reacted were very true to life. Life, as it always does, goes on.
