Continuing the journey of Harry Potter and his friends at the magical school of Hogwarts, the Chamber of Secrets is a slightly darker and more richer tale than the first in the series.

The story begins back at the Dursleys, where Harry is studying and eager to get back to school. But he is visited by a "house elf" by the name of Dobby, who gives him dire warnings and pleads with him not to return to Hogwarts. Harry refuses, but there are amusing (at least for us) consequences to that action. Through an interesting series of adventures (which introduces the flying car), Harry and Ron escape and we get to meet Ron's family. Then it is off again to Hogwarts and the main plot begins.

And such a plot it is! Many elements are woven into this story, from funny (the Mandrakes) to the serious (people turning to stone). We also have the pleasure of meeting one of the most amusing teachers of them all, Gilderoy Lockhart (Branagh). There is a magical duel between Harry and his nemesis, Malfoy, and of course the exciting sport of Quidditch graces the screen, even more exciting than before. The story moves along briskly, but not too fast to enjoy any number of subtle and humorous touches and moments in the school.

This is a very good movie, possibly better than the first, and only speaks of good things to come with the series.
